HKUST Arts Festival 2023 – LauZone @HKUST

LauZone (撈鬆) was critically acclaimed for its premiere performance in Tai Kwun in 2021. We are delighted to bring this multilingual Hong Kong-styled cabaret to HKUST. Let’s get ready for the euphony of dialects, music, and laughter with local talents Anna LO (盧宜均) and Rick LAU (劉榮豐) who will also host a post-performance talk.

HKUST Music Alive! – Sergei Rachmaninoff 150th Anniversary Concert

This year marks the 150th heavenly birthday of the legendary Russian composer Sergei RACHMANINOFF. His virtuosic and romantic pieces continue to resonate in today's world. Join us in this concert performed by HKUST faculty members from the Division of Humanities, including baritone Isaac DROSCHA, violinist Anders HUI, and pianist Amy SZE, as they showcase the beauty and power of RACHMANINOFF's music. Prepare to be swept away by the magnificent and heart-wrenching melodies throughout the concert.

HKUST Arts Festival 2023 – The Floral Princess (Abridged Version)

Directed by YUEN Siu Fai (阮兆輝) and adapted by CHAN Sau Yan (陳守仁), this abridged version of the classic romantic tragedy – The Floral Princess (帝女花‧精緻版) will be performed by renowned Cantonese opera artists Chin Shan (千珊) and Ling Yan (靈音) together with HKUST students who participated in the Cantonese Opera Workshop: Singing and Acting.

HKUST Music Alive! – French May Opera: Le Docteur Miracle (Dr Miracle) & Rita

BIZET’s Le Docterur Miracle (Dr Miracle) and DONIZETTI's Rita are Paris-inspired operas full of comical and lovable tunes. Join us in this exhilarating performance with a stellar cast, including soprano Etta FUNG, tenor CHEN Young and baritone Isaac DROSCHA, a faculty member from the Division of Humanities of HKUST. This program is presented in collaboration with Opera Hong Kong and OperaLab as part of the French May Festival 2023.

Hailed by the Los Angeles Times as a pianist with "a powerful, passionate and compelling representation of pure artistry", Zee Zee is one of the brightest rising Chinese soloists on the international stage. She will perform a German Romantic program of Brahms and the Schumanns, unfolding a story full of complicated love and friendships.

HKUST Arts Festival 2023 – Resplendent Beauty: On Cantonese Opera Repertoire and Costumes Exhibition

An exhibition of authentic Cantonese opera costumes and stage sets, focusing on four well-known operas including The Buttery Lovers (梁山伯與祝英台), Muk Gwai-ying Routing Hongzhou (穆桂英大破洪州), The Floral Princess (帝女花) and The Priceless Jade (連城璧). Visitors will discover the beauty of the art form and interact with multimedia presentations.
