Directed by our alumnus KA Sing-fung, the film Lost Love (流水落花) was a closing film of the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival 2022. It was also recommended by the 29^th Hong Kong Film Critics Society, in which the leading actress Sammi CHENG also received the Best Actress award. Join us for the screening and the post-screening talk with director Fung, Sammi and Alan.

This program features vocal and chamber works by Antonin DVOŘÁK and Leoš JANÁČEK – two influential Czech Romantic composers of the 19^th and 20^th century. Let’s hear the most poetic Czech musical voice performed by Cindy HO and fellow musicians.

Patrick YIM, Professor of Violin at the University of Notre Dame, introduces the audience to the world of virtuosic contemporary violin repertoire. Patrick has performed worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician, and will be joined on stage by two of the evening’s composers.

Alice Theatre Laboratory (愛麗絲劇場實驗室), a local performing arts group devoted to experimental performances, performs & hosts an interactive sharing session on the renowned Surrealism film “The Blood of a Poet” by Jean COCTEAU. Come join us for this surreal experience.

Winner of the First Prize & Gold Medalist of China International Music Competition 2019, Tony Siqi YUN brings the most expressive and virtuosic tunes on the piano. The playing shall resonate like mixed flavors in the surrounding acoustics of Shaw Auditorium, not to be missed!

All About The Three Kingdoms (三國知多少) is an educational & family-friendly program with interactive demonstrations by the Hong Kong Dance Company. This vivid dance program brings alive tales from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Through excerpts of the great classic, they will share the heartaches and tribulations of the historical heroes as they face troubled times. 

Butterfly and Red Pear Blossom (蝶影紅梨記, 1959), the first restoration of a Cantonese opera film, will be screened at this event. Mr. Horus TSUI of the Hong Kong Film Archive will share the experience and technology of film restoration and the work of building up digital archives that are of great academic value in the 21^st century. 

This year marks the 150^th heavenly birthday of the legendary Russian composer Sergei RACHMANINOFF who wrote the most virtuosic and romantic pieces that still reflects sweetly in today's world. Be prepared to be swept away by the magnificent and heartachingly melodies throughout this concert. 

LauZone (撈鬆) was critically acclaimed for its premiere performance in Tai Kwun in 2021. We are delighted to bring this multilingual Hong Kong-styled cabaret to the HKUST. Let’s get ready for the euphony of dialects, music, and laughter with local talents Anna LO and Rick LAU. An additional performance may be added by popular demand.   

Georges BIZET’s Le Docterur Miracle (Dr Miracle) is set to be a light and entertaining piece full of loveable tunes. Join us in this exhilarating performance of the one-act opera with soprano Etta FUNG, tenor CHEN Young, baritone Isaac DROSCHA, among others. This program is presented in collaboration with Opera Hong Kong and OperaLab as part of the French May Festival 2023.

Hailed by the Los Angeles Times as a pianist with "powerful, passionate and compelling representation of pure artistry", Zee Zee is one of the brightest arising Chinese soloist on the international stage. She will perform German Romantic program of Brahms and the Schumanns, unfolding a story full of complicated love and friendships. 

The costume design of Cantonese opera is largely determined by gender, role, personality and occasion. Rolling out in April is a costume exhibition of Cantonese opera featuring authentic garments and stage sets with a touch of multimedia presentation.
